First!

Knock the cobwebs off your hummingbird feeders (literally for me)!

April 15th marked my first sighting of the 2012 season for the returning migrators, which is a week earlier than last year.

Remember that its not necessary, and some believe its harmful, to add red dye to feeders to attract the birds.  A simple mixture of white granulated sugar with water in a ratio of 1:4 is all you need.  Using a red feeder, or planting red flowers near the feeder, may boost the number of your visitors.  I have a large red umbrella on my patio table that I believe has contributed to the numbers I see.  Some of the hummingbirds are very curious about the umbrella and look for a place to feed from it!
